The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) is a unique international forum where science meets business on independent, impartial ground. The Society offers a chance to share information between sectors as diverse as food and agriculture, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, environmental science and safety.

Originally established in 1881, SCI is a registered charity with individual Members in over 70 countries. Its international headquarters are in London, UK.

Ever since its foundation, SCI's principal objective has been to further the application of chemistry and related sciences for the public benefit.

The Society's strategic statements are:

  • SCI Purpose: Promoting the commercial application of science for the benefit of society
  • SCI Vision: To be recognised worldwide as a leader in promoting the beneficial application of science
  • SCI Positioning: By bringing together people in science and business, SCI fosters the exchange of knowledge to develop the application of sustainable science which upholds the principle of Corporate Social Responsibility.

SCI is a democratic organisation governed by a Board of Trustees. Four Board Advisory Committees oversee the various aspects of its activities. The Executive, led by the Chief Executive, run the day-to-day affairs of the Society. The Honorary President of SCI is Dr Stephanie Burns, the internationally recognised CEO of Dow Corning Corporation.

The Society provides an important interface between industrial, academic and other interests. Although the majority of SCI's activities still take place in Great Britain, we have many Members in other parts of the world.
