How to use the forums
SCI's forums are open to both members and non-members. You may read all forum posts except for those in closed forums for committee use. You will need to sign in to post a comment, or reply to another posting.

How do I post a message?
Sign in, then choose a forum most relevant to your subject. If there's no obvious fit, you may like to use General or Careers Opportunities.
Click on 'post,' which will bring up a window. Give your message a subject line, and start writing. Important: If you start writing and then come back to it later, you may lose your message. If you are likely to spend any time on your post, write a draft first, and copy and paste it into the window. If you write your message in Word, copy it into text pad or similar before copying it into the forum. Word carries over a lot of extra code which shows up as gobbledygook.
Press 'preview' to have a look at your message before posting.
How do I reply to a message?
Just go to a message and press 'reply'. Again you can preview before posting
How do I link to a website?
Type in the web address you want to link to, eg www.soci.org, and highlight the text. Then look for the little image of chain links with a globe behind it in the toolbar. Click on this, and type or copy in the web address.
How will I know if someone has replied to my post?
If you are an SCI member, you can change your forum settings so you get an e-mail when someone posts. See below.
I want to reply to a specific point in a series of posts. Can I do this?
Yes, just click on 'quote' and the post you are replying to will appear in the window. If this is too much, just delete the part you don't want.
What's 'pm'?
This means private message – just click on 'pm' and you can send a message that will not appear on the forum.
What are the rules for the forum?

I don't like this post and believe it's against the rules. What can I do?
Click on 'report' to alert a moderator.
I made a mistake in my post. Can I change or delete it?
Yes. Sign in, go to your post and click the edit button. Again you can preview the post. You are also free to delete your post, but consider this carefully if there are replies.
How do I change my forum settings?
Members can go to the MySCI link at the top of the page to change their forum settings. It's the sixth one down in the sidebar.
Members are recommended to say 'yes' to e-mail notifications of replies, and can also add or edit a forum signature. These options are not available to non-members.
Does the search facility work for forums?
Yes it does. Just type your query in the search box at the top of the page and the results will show forum postings
There's no forum for my group. Can you set one up?
Yes! Just contact your Committee Support Contact.
