East Midlands

SCI East Midlands Regional Group covers the heart of England. The traditional economic activity of textiles and coal-mining has seen a downturn and has been replaced by manufacturing. Members of the Group are evenly spread across the spectrum of chemical and allied industries as well as academia.  

Like other SCI Regional Groups, the East Midlands Regional Group organises several talks, site visits and social events aimed at increasing the public understanding of science and its many applications. Topics are a blend of general as well as specialist interest. Past events include a lecture-demonstration Son et Lumiere and a site visit to the Grainstore Brewery in Oakham.
