Chair's Message

Welcome to the webpages of the Environment Group.  The Group is one of the largest special interest technical groups in the Society.

The environment is central to every activity of the chemical, process and allied industries.  With this in mind, the Environment Group aims to provide a forum for discussion and sharing of information on environmental issues relevant to the chemical, process and many other industries, public authorities, academics and other interested parties. The Group also aims to enhance professional awareness on environmental matters.  Much of this is achieved through the one-day national and multi-day international conferences and seminars organized by the volunteers who make up the Group's committee.

Please check our calendar of events for our forthcoming meetings as well as those of our sister groups in Health & Safety, Bioresources and Horticulture.

A significant activity of the Environment Group is active participation in British and International Standards activities where a number of members represent the Society on British and International standards committees.  This is a valuable activity that raises the profile of the Society and has also provided mutual benefits from organising meetings and seminars to contribute to public debate and to the introduction of new standards.  Most of this activity has been in the areas of soil quality, water quality, sludge disposal and CEN environmental policy.
