Chair's Message
Fire Chemistry, the chemistry occurring in fire, is a fascinating, complex, multidisciplinary science. The SCI Fire Chemistry Technical Interest Group (originally known as the SCI Fire Chemistry Discussion Group) exists to promote discussion and collaboration between academic, industrial and institutional research workers. We are particularly interested in the various aspects of fire and flammability, and ways of reducing the flammability.
Chemically, the reactions occurring during a fire are not well understood. Ideas and experience are shared within the Group, such as new methods of studying the reactions occurring in flames, or the mechanisms by which materials, particularly polymeric ones, burn and how flame retardants act. Through these essential discussions and collaboration between our Members, we aim to contribute to both the industrial and general public's understanding of fire and fire-retardant products.
We look forward to your continuing involvement in this important area of applied chemistry.
