2003 Seligman Bursar

Raghupathy Ramaswamy

Raghupathy RamaswamyRaghupathy Ramaswamy is Assistant Professor of Food Process Engineering at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore, India. He is the first person from India to be selected for this prestigious bursary, which awards people in the food-engineering field from around the world.

Raghupathy took full advantage of his stay by visiting a number of food engineering institutes including the Universities of Reading, Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester Metropolitan and Westminster, where he was able to discuss the work being researched with scientists there. He also visited companies in the industry such as APV and Weetabix.

Raghupathy attended a number of training sessions and conferences whilst in England, including 'Food Factory Inspections' conducted by the Law Laboratories Ltd and 'How does a food manufacturer avoid poisoning people?' in Reading.

'The bursary helped me to get exposed to the advancements in Food Process Engineering Research in the UK and I gained a number of contacts for furthering my activities in my home country', says Raghupathy about the bursary.

The Seligman APV Bursary provides funds of up to GB£1000 for a visit to the UK devoted to studying or discussing aspects of food engineering, production management or logistics.

The Seligman APV Trust Fund was endowed by APV (now part of Invensys plc) in honour of its founder Dr Richard Seligman (1878-1972) the trustees of which decide each year in which countries to invite candidates for the Fellowship.

The selection panel includes the current Chair of the SCI Food Engineering Group. Previous winners have come from a range of countries across the world including Malaysia, Italy, China and the US.
