Raghupathy
Ramaswamy is Assistant Professor of Food Process Engineering
at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore, India.
He is the first person from India to be selected for this
prestigious bursary, which awards people in the food-engineering
field from around the world.
Raghupathy took full advantage of his stay by visiting a
number of food engineering institutes including the Universities
of Reading, Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester Metropolitan and
Westminster, where he was able to discuss the work being researched
with scientists there. He also visited companies in the industry
such as APV and Weetabix.
Raghupathy attended a number of training sessions and conferences
whilst in England, including 'Food Factory Inspections' conducted
by the Law Laboratories Ltd and 'How does a food manufacturer
avoid poisoning people?' in Reading.
'The bursary helped me to get exposed to the advancements
in Food Process Engineering Research in the UK and I gained
a number of contacts for furthering my activities in my home
country', says Raghupathy about the bursary.
The Seligman APV Bursary provides funds of up to GB£1000
for a visit to the UK devoted to studying or discussing aspects
of food engineering, production management or logistics.
The Seligman APV Trust Fund was endowed by APV (now part
of Invensys plc) in honour of its founder Dr Richard Seligman
(1878-1972) the trustees of which decide each year in which
countries to invite candidates for the Fellowship.
The selection panel includes the current Chair of the SCI
Food Engineering Group. Previous winners have come from
a range of countries across the world including Malaysia,
Italy, China and the US.
