SCI recognises the importance of helping young people to make the most of the academic opportunities available to them. The Messel and Gray Scholarships that it awards every year to promising students in all areas of chemical science are highly prized in the academic community. The Scholarships provide recipients with GB£1000 per year for three years, to assist with their studies, and free SCI Membership for the duration.
At the 124th AGM, some of this years young scholars were able to give something in return to SCI by sharing details of their work with those present. Oral and poster presentations on topics from polymerisation to heterocyclic dyes showed the keenness with which this new generation of scientists are embracing the diversity and opportunities of the chemical industry.
The proceedings were opened by Prof
Paul Luckham, Chairman of the Messel and Gray Scholarship
selection panel and recipient of a 2005 Distinguished Service
Award.
