DSA acknowledges Henry’s sterling service
Distinguished Service Award: Henry Warson
Henry Warson has been awarded an SCI Distinguished Service Award for his longstanding service to the Society. Henry has been a Member of SCI since 1946 and a member of a number of committees since 1966 as well as being a member of Council.
From 1966–1982, Henry was a committee member for the Plastics and Polymer Group, which merged with an RSC group to become the joint Macromolecular Group in 1982, and the group treasurer for several years. He was responsible for organising several one-day symposia, on subjects including PVC, and a visit to research institutions in Israel in 1968.
Henry was also active in the West Midlands Section for 24 years. He was the Section Chairman from 1979–1981 and organised a two-day symposium on biopolymers.
Henry has been a Member of the London Section since 1992 and has organised several events, including the recent ‘Chemistry and Music from America’ evening. He received a BSc in Chemistry from Queen Mary College, London, and a PhD from Battersea College of Technology in London on ‘Redox polymerisation of acrylonitrile with diazonium salt/hypophosphorus acid initiation’.
Henry worked for Vinyl Products, before becoming Technical Manager, Polymers, for Dunlop’s chemical products division. Since 1970 Henry has been a chemical consultant and expert witness.
He has written and edited several books, many in the field of emulsion polymerisation.
