ACS National Meeting, Washington
Rideal bursar's note
The Sir Eric Rideal Travel Bursary of £250 I received earlier this year was instrumental in funding my trip to the 230th ACS National Meeting, Washington, D.C., 28 August - 1 September, 2005.
My presentation, entitled ‘Conception, Delivery and Development: Colloids in a Contaminated Environment’ was given in the ‘In-Situ Methods and Investigations in Environmental and Molecular Science’ session of the Geochemistry division. It was well received, and earned me a prize for the best student talk in the division.
The opportunity to present my research to a broader scientific community (there were 10,000 delegates attending this meeting!) has benefited my development as a PhD student enormously, not least through the possible future collaborations that have resulted.
The experience has also broadened my career prospects as it brought me into direct contact with industrial partners, and opened up vocational possibilities that had previously received little consideration.
