SCI bursaries open conference doors

A quick guide to SCI bursaries

planeMessel Fund bursaries for activities related to chemical science, engineering and technology

AJ Banks Fund bursaries for activities related to food science, engineering and technology.

Applications are judged three times during the year with applications closing on 30 April, 31 August and 31 December. The date of the event for which the bursary is being requested must be between six weeks and 12 months after the appropriate application closing date. (Applications submitted between 1 January and 30 April 2006 should ideally be for travel beginning in the period 15 June 2006 to 30 April 2007).

Leverhulme travel bursaries are available to those who wish to attend a science meeting, but who need additional funds to make it possible. To qualify, students must be carrying out postgraduate research at an institution within the Liverpool Section’s area (Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales).

The bursaries help with the costs of travel, subsistence and registration fees and are intended to supplement the applicant’s own contribution or funds from other sources. Applicants must normally be presenting either a poster or a paper at the meeting they are proposing to attend. Deadlines for applications are 1 June and 1 December. Richardson travel awards from the SCI Messel Fund are offered annually on the recommendation of the Process Engineering Group to candidates working in the general field of research and development in process engineering, process chemistry and related topics for attendance at a conference and/or visiting a relevant institution in 2006. Applications are invited for awards from candidates who will be under 35 years of age on 1 January 2006.

These awards are intended to help with the costs of travel, subsistence and registration fees and are intended to supplement the applicant’s own contribution or funds from other sources.

The amount to be awarded to any applicant will not exceed £250. The closing date for applications is 31 December 2005.
