Doug Flett, a founding member of SCI’s Solvent Extraction and Ion Exchange Group (now the Separation Science and Technology (SST) Group) has been awarded the Futers Gold Medal by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining for outstanding services to the international minerals industry in South Africa and Canada, as well as his work as a government research fellow for the National Research Institute for Metals in Tokyo.

Flett, now with St Barbara Consultancy Services, was also chairman of the SST Group for many years, and held other posts at the Society.
