SCI pays tribute to Member
John Hill
Active Member of the Construction
Materials Group
SCI is sad to announce the death of Dr John Hill on 22 June
2004. John was an active Member of the SCI Construction Materials
Group and had been a Member of SCI for almost 50 years. He
was also a Member of the Institute of Asphalt and became Secretary
of the Instute in 1989, holding this office until 1994.
John completed a degree in physics at Queen Mary College
in 1950 and went immediately to work at Shell as a refinery
physicist. He took up various roles at Shell in both the UK
and Amsterdam, and co-authored many Shell publications.
1974 saw the start of new employment for John when he took
the position of Head of Asphalt Research at Wimpeys
Hayes Laboratories. He remained there until his retirement.
During his spare time, John enjoyed reading and spending time
on his musical hobbies as a choral singer and violin player.
SCI offers deepest sympathy to Johns wife, Dora, their
three children, seven grandchildren and other family members
and friends. He will be remembered as a kind gentleman and
an expert in his field.
