How can I send an HTML email?
 |
Sending an email in HTML (hypertext mark-up
language) or rich text can be very useful. You can include
pictures, video or audio files, and you can also change
the font type, colour and the size of text.
However, as some email clients do not allow this,
it can be best to check with your recipient first.

For PCs (this is not an option with Macs):
- Netscape:
Create a new message
Go to Options, Format, and you will see a drop-down
list. Auto detect will detect how your recipients
browser is set up, but you can also choose plain
text only, rich text (HTML) only, or plain and rich
text
- Microsoft Outlook:
Create a new message
Go to Format, and then click the HTML option
- Outlook Express:
Create a new message
Go to Format, and choose rich text
If you are using another browser, please contact
the Web Team we will be happy to help.

Loose
or lose? Complement or compliment? Principal or principle?
Its or its? They are all correct but as
the meaning can be very different, you have to watch
how you use them.
The AskOxford website (http://www.askoxford.com/betterwriting/) lends a welcome
hand to anyone finding the English language a challenge.
The sections on commonly confused and misspelled words
are well worth a browse, and our friends across the
Atlantic will appreciate the section on American spellings.
Guides to letter writing and CVs/resumés are
also included.
And if you have just received a text message that
is really mystifying, the section on SMS, Email and
Online Chat provides a useful dictionary of common
abbreviations (IMHO in my humble opinion) and
emotions (such as :-| which means indifferent).
Unfortunately the site is not quite as strong on
usability as it is on language, so you may find yourself
keying in the address again. But it is worth the trouble.
