Personal Chemistry: Martin
Peacock
Project manager, HELgroup
What
is your job?
I am project managing the development of bioreactors at HELgroup,
manufacturer of automated bespoke chemical reactors, bioreactors
and calorimeters.
Why did you join SCI?
I joined because I recognised SCI as a forum where business
is held as highly as science, which matched my own philosophy.
I am a member of the recently-launched Business Strategy Group.
What do you wish you had invented?
I would have liked to have invented the World Wide Web. Like
all great ideas it is simple in essence, but its application
in our work and home life is now indispensable.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
David West, a now retired senior lecturer in the chemistry
department of DeMontfort University, UK, who was an inspiration
to hundreds of young chemists passing through his department.
What business ideals do you value?
I am impressed by people who have built successful businesses
from scratch, through their own ingenuity and hard work.
What is your favourite motto?
Carpe Diem (seize the day).
What is your favourite holiday destination?
I rarely visit the same place twice on holiday, but I do like
to visit places with a strong historical heritage, and open
spaces where I can run.
Who would be your ideal dinner guests?
Charles Darwin and a creationist.
Can you recommend a website?
www.sixsigma.com/
What is the best bit of advice you have ever received?
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
