Taking the hassle out of events booking

A step-by-step guide to booking SCI conferences online

online bookingWe hope that Members will find it easy to book our events online. But a reminder can always be helpful – so here is a step-by-step guide, which will also appear on the Web Help Page.

The online booking procedure will not sign you up to any mailing lists unless you want to, and unlike some booking forms that appear online, there is the opportunity to go back and amend your details at every stage before final authorisation.

1 First choose your conference. Links to selected forthcoming events appear on the side bar and top banner of the website, or you can select by month, by Group or Section, or just browse through the lot. All the options appear in the SCI Events heading in our new navigation bar.

2 Not all events are bookable online, especially if they are some way into the future and we do not have all the details and prices yet. Those which are bookable, such as the 26 April event, ‘Young Chemist in Industry XIV’, will have ‘Now booking online’ flashing above the title.

3 Once you have the event page open in front of you, click on the ‘Book Online button’. It is the middle one of the three purple buttons.

4 The next page you see will have a drop-down list headed ‘Select ticket type’. Choose whichever is appropriate to you. You will get a discount if you are an SCI Member, and a bigger discount if you are also a student or retired. When you have made your choice, click the blue ‘Continue’ button.

5 The next page will confirm your choice, for example, ‘SCI Member’, and present you with a form.
Enter your details in the empty boxes, eg name, address and Membership number if you have one. The fields in red text are mandatory, and you must click on the ‘yes’ button to accept our Terms and Conditions. There is also an option to accept mailings from us, and as we don’t want to send you things you don’t want, you need to agree to it to get the mailings. Then click the ‘Submit’ button.

6 If all is well, you should have a page headed ‘Please check your details’. However, if some of the mandatory fields have not been filled in, or if you have forgotten to tick the agreement to SCI’s Terms and Conditions, you may find yourself back on the previous page.

Assuming all is well, look for the Billing Details heading near the bottom of the page. You will need to tick if the name of the delegate is the name on the payment card, or if the payment card is registered to the address you have given.

7 The Billing Details page appears next, and you will need to fill in another form, again paying special attention to the mandatory fields in red. The next page lets you confirm the details you have entered.

8 The next page gives you details of the transaction, spelling out the amount to be paid, for your final approval. If you are ready to process the payment using our secure payment screen, click on the ‘authorise’ button.

9 The final page lets you fill our your card number, type, start and expiry date, and security code (last three digits on the reverse of the card). This time, the mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk*. Click the ‘authorise payment’ button.

10 Please wait while your card details are authorised. The transaction is encrypted for privacy, and you are asked not to exit or press ‘back’ until your confirmation has been received. All being well, you should receive confirmation that your transaction has been completed.
