A valuable Insight into
issues that matter
SCI to launch its Insight Series of science communication
initiatives 6 June 2005, Belgrave Square, London, UK
The effective communication of scientific issues and their
impact on society is essential for the advancement of science
and technology. SCI is therefore pleased to announce the launch
of the Insight Series a new initiative to help effectively
communicate complex issues among its Members, opinion formers
and to a wider audience, by promoting balanced discussion
and debate.
The Insight Series will be comprised of situation papers
on current major topics related to chemistry and interdisciplinary
sciences which are of great interest and importance to SCI
Members and to the broader industry, research, government
and NGO communities indeed to anyone with an interest
in learning about or communicating in this field. The papers
are prepared by drawing on the expertise of SCI Members and
their contact networks, and are intended to be summaries of
all the key components of a topic, providing a balanced perspective
of all relevant viewpoints.
SCIs unique purpose, and the strength and
depth of its interdisciplinary and international Membership
mix, permits leadership in the presentation of issues around
any chemical- or bioscience-based topic, in a way that few
other organisations can achieve. We are therefore proud to
demonstrate the diversity of our membership and its expertise
through this initiative.
The first paper in the Insight Series deals with one of the
most important and complex environmental and human health
issues of our age; that of the effects of endocrine active
substances in the environment. Members can now access the
paper online by going to the About SCI drop-down
menu on the website. Members can submit their comments or
views on the paper, and the subject itself, through the website.
These comments will be recorded and taken account of in future
revisions of the paper.
