Members' Directory has got your number

SCI launches new online directory listing of Members' details.

One of the continual aims of SCI is to create greater communication and networking between Members.

To achieve this we could lock our Members in a room together, which we already try to do through the large number of events and conference meetings we organise each year.

Alternatively, we could provide the contact details of Members who want to be contacted, and for the past few months the Web Team has been working on a sensible system to do just that – the Members’ Directory, an online directory listing which will allow the easy searching and the optional submission of SCI Members’ contact details.

Though the Members’ Directory will not be launched until July, here are some of the features it will offer. The directory will allow almost complete freedom regarding which of your own details are shown or not shown, preventing information being displayed to others that shouldn’t (such as email and telephone). The only exceptions to this are the location and expertise fields.

Members can search both for professional and social reasons from a set of fields ranging from contactable location and expertise to interests outside of work and chemistry. Any Member submitting can do so with a professional or social purpose in mind. Adding, amending or deleting a record from the Members’ Directory couldn’t be easier; and nor could deactivating or reactivating your account if you find you want a rest from your newfound popularity.
