Ladds to meet Society challenge
head on
SCI'S Chief Executive Andrew Ladds
eyes Society's Development potential
In advance of the AGM, SCI General Secretary and Chief
Executive Andrew Ladds outlines his plans for the strategic
development of the Society.
Modernisation
and development
I am very excited to have joined SCI at a time when the
need for modernisation is being recognised and encouraged
by our Membership, and there is an appetite for organisational
development.
Together with SCI Members, Officers and the dedicated team
at Belgrave Square, I hope to accelerate the advancement of
the Society, so that it is well-equipped to meet the challenges
and opportunities that the chemical and related industries
present, and to further strengthen our unique positioning
at the interface where science meets business.
We will be developing and shaping our operational functions
to improve the balance between the Societys needs and
our resources. This will facilitate the streamlining of our
governance structure and its associated decision-making processes,
and will assist with the development and strengthening of
our Geographical Sections and Special Interest Groups.
Working together
Our recent Membership survey, in which many of you will have
participated, will further contribute to a strategic review
of the organisation.
The imminent launch of the Insight and Foresight papers and
the activities of, for example, the Working Party on Strategic
Science Provision are all examples of positive steps that
the Society is taking to increase the profile of SCI and strengthen
its reputation as an authority on topical, science based issues.
The SCI Members'
Directory, which was launched at the AGM on Wednesday
6 July, is another exciting initiative that will facilitate
communication and networking between Members.
Innovation
Overall, an innovative approach to our structure, communications
and working practices will enable us to demonstrate dynamic
leadership in the pursuit of exploiting knowledge by bringing
industry, business and chemical science together.

Executive
