Member Directory will get you talking

The new SCI directory goes online this month to promote greater communication between Members

Members DirectorySCI launches its online Members’ Directory this month, with the aim of facilitating greater communication and networking between Members.

Sharing and expanding knowledge
The directory can be used to search for experts in a specialist field,or in a particular location. So if you are after food scientists, perhaps to follow up on our ‘Ask a Food Scientist’ initiative, just enter ‘food’ in the relevant field.

Alternatively it is possible to search by geographical area. If you have a conference coming up in India and want to contact local Members before or during your trip, just key in ‘India’.

As for submitting your own details to the database of Members, the only mandatory fields are for location and expertise. Your contact details and name do not have to be shown, so there is no need to be wary of spam e-mails or unwanted phone calls.

If your listing does not include a direct contact, you will get an e-mail from SCI if someone wants to get in touch. It is entirely up to you if you want to respond, though we hope you will.

Networking and socialising
Members have the option of entering additional details; the more information the directory offers, the more useful it will be. And the directory is not just about work; it also has an important social function, and we hope Members will use it to get to know each other. If you tick the social option, you may well get asked out for a drink!

Adding, amending or deleting your record from the Members’ Directory is straightforward. You can also deactivate or reactivate your account if you are going away, retiring, or just want a rest from your new-found popularity.

Strengthening your society
Finally, a request from SCI.Do enter your details, even if it is just the minimum. The directory will only be as good as the information it holds!

The directory can be found at: http://www.soci.org/SCI/member/directory/. Please note, you need to log in first to enter your details. It will be officially launched at the SCI AGM on 6 July – we hope to see you there!
