CPhI exhibition and conference

Chemistry & Industry success at CPhI Madrid

Key contacts established with Indian subcontinent and Latin America

The Chemistry & Industry standChemistry & Industry magazine scored on all fronts at November's mammoth CPhI exhibition and conference in Madrid.

The show attracted some 20,000 visitors from pharmaceutical companies from over 100 countries, including many delegates from China and India.

'Both the editorial and advertising teams had a very successful show and raised the profile and visibility of C&I and SCI considerably,' editor Neil Eisberg said.

Many exhibitors were interested in potentially pairing the news and features-based C&I with a journal, especially Pest Management Science or the Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology for communications purposes, he noted. The high technical overlap between pharma and agrochemical product development and production made such a combination especially appealing.

'Looking at the enlargement of SCI, Sales Manager Malcolm Fullarton and I had excellent meetings with representatives from Argentinian and Brazilian industry/export promotion organisations who were interested in working with SCI,' he added. 'They both provided lists of members and asked that they be added to our trial subscription promotion.' Neil also made contact with a representative of the Indian Chamber of Commerce who was interested in working with SCI to develop links with the Indian chemical/pharmaceutical sector.

The advertising team also made good use of their time, seeing a substantial number of existing and future clients, who were well impressed with C&I. ‘The outlook for next year looks very positive and we are looking forward to our next big event, Informex in Orlando in February 2006,’ Malcolm Fullarton said.

CPhIA separate team signed up 550 delegates for a trial subscription of the magazine, with many expressing an interest in joining SCI. If you know any non-SCI Members who might be interested, this offer is still open and can be found at Chemistry & Industry or contact SCI Web Team, T: +44 (0) 20 7598 1587, F: +44 (0)20 7598 1545, E: web[ at]soci.org.

'chocolate con churros'

After a lot of hard work during the three-day event, the SCI contingent enjoyed some chocolate con churros in the evening. This untranslatable treat involves dipping doughnut tubes into thick liquid chocolate, perhaps parallel in health terms with the UK's notorious deep-fried Mars bars.
