Viehmann appointed to head up Frankfurt office
SCI Europe appointment |
Wolfgang Viehmann
has been appointed general manager
of SCI Europe to lead the
development of the Society’s activities
on the continent. For the
last eighteen months, SCI has
been progressing its business
plans to develop its presence in
mainland Europe, India and
China. Each of these regions is
of critical importance to SCI in
terms of building its membership
base and intelligence gathering
capability so that it can
have a truly global perspective
to its activities.
While this office will have
responsibility for the Society
across all of mainland Europe,
SCI’s choice of Frankfurt for its
new office – in the heart of one
of the most significant regions
for chemical innovation – provides
a perfect location to start
building its base and activities.
‘I am looking forward to the
challenges of opening and running
an office for SCI in Germany
representing the Society on the
continent,’ said Viehmann,
‘Building the Society’s membership
base will be key to the
activities in the new office,
as will developing strong and
fruitful relationships with
other European science
organisations.’
The new office is in Carl
Bosch Haus, a building owned by
Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker
(GDCh) – the German Chemical
Society – providing excellent
connectivity with this well established
institute. The name Carl
Bosch is particularly apt as he is
well known to many as an individual
synonymous with industrial
chemistry innovation.
SCI already has over 500
members based in mainland
Europe. This office will provide
a focus for members in the region
as it starts to develop knowledge
transfer activities, such as
conferences, awards and other
events. Already, SCI’s business
strategy group, which has a
strong mainland European focus,
is planning to hold an event in
Frankfurt to coincide with the
official opening of the new office
in October 2007.
