First-hand farm demos beef up meeting

Multi-Group/Section Event: Farming and the Environment
19 July, Askham Bryan College, York, UK

Dates for your diary
The agricultural sector is undergoing great change. The aim of this meeting, Farming and the Environment: Partnerships in Chemistry and Agriculture, is to provide an overview of how chemistry is providing a means of creating innovative products in this changing environment. The protection of natural resources and development of novel crop products provide a means for maximising economic return within the farming system. Understanding natural systems and the chemistry of natural materials are central to obtaining sustainability in farming systems.

This meeting, organised by the Agriculture and Environment Group, Environment Group, and Yorkshire and Humberside Section, will be based around farm demonstrations and tours of dairy, beef, arable and biomass production at Askham Bryan College, York, UK, in the context of talks from experts that stress the importance of maintaining quality assurance of produce; novel uses of crop products; and the potential for using crops as renewable industrial inputs.

The meeting will be relevant to anyone with an interest in the future of farming, food, renewables and the application of new technologies. For more information, please contact: Deborah Murray or Jan Poole , T: +44 (0)20 7598 1563, F: +44 (0)20 7235 7743 , E: deborahandjan@soci.org.
