Business Strategy Group meeting: Growing Opportunities for Innovation in Platform Chemicals: Are Crops Viable Alternative Sources? London, 20 March 2006
banner

Will chemicals derived from crops become viable alternatives to petrochemicals? The Insight seminar was designed to engage SCI members in becoming better equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities waiting in uncertain futures by sharing state-of-the-art knowledge and developing an understanding of key drivers.

Speakers from leading organisations involved in bio-renewables discussed the current situation and prospects from various angles, including crop science and biotechnology, chemicals and processing, and the supporting infrastructure being developed in Europe.

The aim is to scope-out the broad topic area. What is the big picture at present? What knowledge, needs and connections do SCI members have? What are the questions that need asking? Outputs will feed in to the second phase of this Insight project which will be a focused analysis to provide a distinctive and high impact contribution by SCI. In phase three, results will be communicated, eg as a paper, a conference, or online, giving first sight to members, and possibly setting the scene for further work.
