Many ways to add value to
asphalt
Construction Materials Group:
Performance-Enhancing Additives in Asphalt
Belgrave Square, London, UK, 17 March 2005
A
well-attended all-day seminar on 17 March, organised by SCIs
Construction Materials Group with the support of IAT and IHT,
discussed Performance Enhancing Additives in Asphalt, with
Cliff Nicholls (TRL) in the chair.
Speakers at the event were Neil Turner (Excel)
on fibres; Ian Dussek, OBE, on Trinidad Lake Asphalt; Graeme
Richards (Aggregate Industries) on pigmentable binders; Adrian
Blacker (Asphalt Associates) on gilsonite; Joe Jellie (University
of Ulster) on adding fibres; Gilles Orange (Rhodia, France)
on the chemical modification of bitumen through polyphosphoric
acid; and Hussein Khalid on adding shredded waste tyres to
asphalt (or, in the current jargon, post-consumer tyre
rubber). These presentations can be seen on our download
page.
Before the start of the afternoon session, SCI
Vice President Peel Holroyd presented Cliff Nicholls with
the Construction Materials Group Award. Apart from the certificate,
Cliff perhaps as a tribute to the extent of his contributions
to the Group over the years, such as organising 26 successful
events received two heavy volumes of the Story of
the British Motorway System.
