Brian Vincent will retire
from his post as the Leverhulme
Chair of Physical Chemistry at the
University of Bristol at the end of
2007. Brian has been a fantastic
servant of UK science over many
years and a stalwart of the SCI
Surface Chemistry and Colloids
Group throughout his career. He
has also served on the SCI Council
and Executive committee. To mark
Brian’s retirement, the RSC/SCI
joint committee for Colloid and
Surface Chemistry, is organising
a two-day meeting to celebrate his
career and achievements.
Brian
has had an enormous influence
on colloid science in the UK and
through his work with the
International Association of Colloid
and Interface Scientists (IACIS) and
the European Colloid and Interface
Society (ECIS), he has also had
significant impact on colloid science
more widely, across the world.
Brian has received many honours
including the SCI Founder’s
Lecture and Award, the SCI
Distinguished Service Award, the
RSC award in Surface and Colloid
Chemistry and the Rehbinder
Lecture and Medal (Moscow).
| ‘A truly memorable event to
mark the career of a truly
inspirational scientist.’ |
He
has had numerous invitations to
give lectures throughout the world
and has published over 250 papers,
articles, books and patents during
his career. He has also been very
active at the academic /industry
interface and has been a consultant
for many of the leading companies
that use colloid technology
worldwide. His has been a truly
outstanding career and it is fitting
that his retirement is marked in
this way.
The conference consists of a
small number of exclusive seminars
by leading researchers in
colloid science. The topics chosen
reflect areas of colloid science
where Brian himself has made
significant contributions during
his career. The symposium will
highlight Brian’s career and
achievements whilst providing a
perspective on what the future
holds for of many of the topics
he has championed.
Fittingly, the meeting is to be
held at Lord’s Cricket Ground,
combining Brian’s great passions
of science and cricket! Lord’s provides
an excellent venue for a
conference of this type and the
Gala Dinner in the Long Room
will provide a truly memorable
event to mark the career of a
truly inspirational scientist.
