CD set of the proceedings of the historic 1979 Reclamation of
Contaminated Land conference is now available.
SCI was invited to organise the conference by the then Department
of the Environment in response to its own Interdepartmental
Committee on the Redevelopment of Contaminated Land, which
was set up in 1976.
The conference, which took place in Eastbourne, set an important
precedent for the chemical industry. The recent follow-up
at Loughborough, held in September 2004 looked back on the
first conference and assessed what progress had been made
in the intervening 25 years.
The disks include the opening addresses from AW Kenny from
the Department of the Environment and D H Sharp, who was General
Secretary of SCI at the time.
