Ghent to glimpse future
of fractionation
22 - 23 November
Oils & Fats Group:
Fractionation - current status and future prospects in a low-trans
world
Dates for your dairy
In 1994 SCI organised a very well-attended one-day conference
entitled Fractional Crystallisation of Fats. Developments
have continued rapidly since then and we have now planned
a new conference on the topic, to be held at Het Pand Conference
Centre, Ghent University. Ghent, Belgium.
Many new fractionation plants have been installed in Malaysia,
Indonesia and elsewhere and, recently, once again in Europe.
The impetus for these new plants comes from: the continuing
increase in the production of palm and palm kernel oils; new
fractionation technology; and the decline in hydrogenation
because of nutritional concern about trans fatty acids.
For this conference, expert speakers have been invited to:
explain the theory and practice of fractionation; review current
and possible future developments in the technology; review
the application of fractionation to the processing of palm,
palm kernel, milk fat, and other oils; and explain the application
of fractionation to the production of fat products, especially
where the aim is to produce low-trans products. Applications
include confectionery fats, bakery fats, spreads and frying
oils.We are also inviting research workers to submit papers
on current research. Overall, the conference aims to be the
place to find out all about fractionation where it
is, where it is going, and what can be done with it. This
is the process that last years European Lipid Technology
Award lecturer declared to be The Fat Modification Process
of the 21st century. Dont miss it!
