Newswatch: SCI Members' News interests
dental and security publications
June proved to be a quiet month for SCI media coverage, but
as always, SCI people and news made the print and online press.
Business in Wales magazine interviewed SCI Member
Sir Christopher Evans OBE for an article in its June issue.
The article covered Sir Christophers efforts to inspire
innovation in university science students, through imaginative
and creative teaching, and his view of the biotech industry,
especially in Wales. Founder and chairman of Merlin Biosciences
and regarded as one of Europes leading biotechnology
entrepreneurs, Sir Christopher received an OBE in the 1996
New Years Honours List, and a Knighthood in 2001.
SCI press-releases from last month also received continuing
coverage. The British Dental Journal featured some
news from Chemistry & Industry magazine on cells
that may be able to regenerate gum tissue. The summer issue
of Crossed Grain the magazine of the charity
Coeliac UK, covered another C&I news story from
last month about a pill that regulates intestinal channels.
Last months Pest Management Science research
on spinosad and bumble bees was covered in Bees for Development
Journal. Finally, C&I story on clever jail cells that
can detect agitated inmates was covered on a leading security
news portal securitypark.co.uk.
