A healthy helping of milk
and sherry to feed the media
A
sherry a day could keep the doctor away, suggests new
research by Spanish scientists. Their findings were published
in SCIs Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture
(JSFA) recommending that sherry can reduce cholesterol levels
and contains beneficial antioxidants. You may have heard this
news on GMTV or read it in numerous newspapers or websites.
And did you hear the one about feeding cows rapeseed oil
to lower the saturated fat contact of milk? The milk keeps
all the taste of full fat products which means healthier
ice cream and other dairy products. This was also research
published in JSFA.
But lets not forget Chemistry & Industrys
news (issue 6) about brain fingerprinting technology. The
new method, in which patients wear a headpiece with harmless
electrodes attached, can be used as a tool for predicting
and monitoring Alzheimers and other brain diseases.
This has great implications for the development of drugs to
treat such diseases. The news was also splashed around the
media, raising the magazines profile further.
