Newswatch: Laughing
gas story proves C&I has a taste for news
C&I
grabbed column inches in UK broadsheets The Daily Telegraph
and The Times with a story describing how chocolate
aerated with nitrous oxide laughing gas
has a creamier, melt-in-the-mouth flavour (its
all to do with bubble size!).
The research was carried out by SCI Member Keshavan Niranjan
and colleagues (including AJ Banks bursar Josefin
Haedelt) at the University of Reading and Nestle UK, and
was presented at the Institute of Food Technologists Annual
Meeting in Louisiana, US on 19 July.
The story received extensive online coverage reaching as
far as Australia and India, and was featured in prominent
local UK newspapers such as The Yorkshire Post. Professor
Niranjan was also interviewed by a local radio station Reading
107 FM.
The Young Ambassador Award 2005, which was jointly sponsored
by SCI, also received press coverage in local news across
the UK, as the winner was announced on 12 July. For details
