Welcome to Insight. The Insight Series comprises situation
papers on current major topics related to chemistry and interdisciplinary
sciences. These are of great interest and importance to SCI
members as well as broader industry, research, government
and non government organisation communities - indeed anyone
with an interest in learning about or communicating in this
field.
The papers are prepared by drawing on the expertise of SCI
members and their contact networks, and are intended to be
summaries of all the key components of a topic, providing
a balanced perspective of all relevant viewpoints.

References to significant further information sources are
provided, but the papers do not seek to offer judgments of
issues from any particular interest sector; only to ensure
that the reader has the most up-to-date information available.
The papers in the series will be updated and reissued from
time to time.
SCI's unique purpose, and the strength and depth of its interdisciplinary
and international membership mix, permits leadership in the
presentation of issues around any chemical or bio-science
based topic, in a way that few other organisations can achieve.
- In the second Insight paper, Strategic
chemistry-based science education into the 21st century
(pdf 151Kb) SCI publishes the results of its membership
survey on science education in the UK. Highlighting some
significant shortcomings, it urges the government, industry
and academia to ensure sufficient scientists are trained
to meet future needs.
