Awards galore at the Park Hyatt Hotel

Canada International Group Awards dinner in Toronto 1 March 2005

Merit Award winners with (left) Graham KnowlesThe SCI Canada Section Awards Dinner took place on 1 March 2005 in the elegant surroundings of the Park Hyatt Hotel, Toronto. A large guest attendance reflected the popularity of this enjoyable event which was preceded by a cocktail reception giving guests, medallists and student Merit Award winners a chance to chat in advance. SCI’s Canada International Group Chair Roger Hayward, President and General Manager of Rohm & Haas Canada, presided over the evening’s events.

The Canada Medal was presented to Peter Pritchard, former Vice-Chair and President of LV Lomas. This medal is awarded for outstanding service to Canadian Industry.

The Le Sueur Award went to Doug Stephan, head of the chemistry and biochemistry department at the University of Windsor, Ontario. The award recognises the development of technical excellence and innovation.

The Julia Levy Awards recognises successful innovation in Canada in bio-medical science and engineering. The first recipient of this award was Bill Hunter, President and CEO of Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Vancouver.

The International Award presented for outstanding service to a chemistry-based industry internationally went to Pierre Choquette, Chair of Methanex.

Graham Knowles acknowledged recognition of the student Merit Award winners and congratulated those present.
