SCI Organisational Structure

The Society of Chemical Industry is a democratic organisation governed by a Board of Trustees. Four Board Advisory Committees oversee the various aspects of SCI's activities. The Executive, led by the Chief Executive, runs the day-to-day affairs of the Society.

Board Advisory Committees

  • Membership (MAC)
    Works with the groups to ensure they are aligned with and contribute to SCI's goals. It also focuses on expanding membership, meeting members’ needs and the creation of new groups, both in the UK and abroad.

  • Marketing and Development (M&DAC)
    Particularly focuses on the growth of the Society and it influencing role with business, government and academia. The Awards Committee (see below) is a subcommittee of the M&DAC.

  • Awards Committee
    Supervise the nomination, choice and presentation of  the Society’s major awards. It operates as a sub-committee of the M&DAC

  • The Forum
    This is an annual gathering for the exchange of views, ideas and plans between the groups and the rest of the Society. Each group, the advisory committees and the Board of Trustees are represented.

    The Forum was introduced on an experimental basis in 2007. It is envisaged that it will provide a real opportunity to capture the ideas and creativity of more members in the Society’s major objectives (more information).

The Board of Trustees has three board subcommittees, whose members are all trustees:

  • Audit – Examining systems/accounts, compliance, and commissioning the auditors
  • Remuneration – Supervises Chief Executive’s remuneration package.
  • Electoral – Providing candidates for elected and appointed positions.
