1 Ownership of SCI's websites and their

are the property of SCI and/or its subsidiaries, affiliates,
or assigns or the material is included with the permission
of the rights owner and is protected pursuant to copyright,
trademark, service marks, patents or other proprietary rights
and laws.

You are authorised to download and print one copy of the material
on this website on one computer for your personal, non-commercial
use only but you may not in so doing, or thereafter, remove

not necessarily reflect the views of SCI.

In consideration of your use of the website, you agree to
provide true, accurate, current and complete information about
yourself as prompted by the website's registration form ("Registration
Data") and maintain and promptly update the Registration
Data to keep it true, accurate, and complete. If you provide
any information that is untrue, inaccurate or incomplete,
or SCI has reasonable grounds to suspect that it is, SCI has
the right to suspend or terminate your account and refuse

the user name, password and any other identification, and

loss) incurred or suffered by SCI directly or indirectly by
reason of any act or omission which you commit in breach of

6 SCI's Warranties, Liability and Hyperlink

Warranties: SCI makes no representations or warranties
with respect to the website or its contents, which are provided
for use "as is". SCI disclaims all warranties, express
or implied, including without limitation the implied warranties
of title, non-infringement, merchantability, quality and fitness
for a particular purpose, with respect to the website and
any website with which it is linked. SCI also makes no representations
or warranties as to whether the information accessible via
this website, or any website with which it is linked, is accurate,
complete or current.
No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained
by you from SCI or the website shall create any warranty not
expressly stated in these Terms.
Although SCI will endeavour to provide the website which is
available at all times, it cannot warrant that the website
will be error free, uninterrupted, timely, secure or reliable.
Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by any and
all applicable laws, SCI on behalf of its employees, agents,
suppliers, and contractors exclude liability for any losses
and expenses of whatever nature and howsoever arising, including
without limitation any direct, indirect, special, punitive,
or consequential damages, loss of use, loss of data, loss
caused by a virus, loss of income or profit, loss of or damage
to property, claims of third parties, liability for any Postings

8 Notes regarding the Modification or Termination
of SCI's websites
SCI reserves the right at any time and from time to time to
modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently the website
(or any part thereof) without notice and without liability
to you or any third party.
Your access to and use of the website may be terminated at
any time for any reason or for no reason by you or by SCI
by the sending of notice to the other party.
9a) Terms and Conditions of Sale on which
SCI will sell Applications for and Renewals of SCI Membership
through its websites.
I. Interpretations:
In these conditions, "Member" means a Member of
SCI as defined by the SCI
Charter and By-Laws, "Goods" means Chemistry
& Industry Magazine, SCINews and anything else
provided by SCI to its Membership, as part of the membership
package of benefits.
II. The contract between us:
a. No legally binding contract exists between us until
SCI's international governing Council has formally endorsed
your application for Membership.
b. The prices payable for SCI Membership are set out on
our websites: www.soci.org
and www.chemind.org
c. You are encouraged to pay by means of Direct Debit,
Visa or Mastercard. You may also pay by cheque, bankers
draft, international money order, or Eurocheque. All payments
must be drawn in Sterling (GB£). Cheques must be drawn
on a United Kingdom bank and we reserve the right to refuse
a cheque not drawn on a United Kingdom bank. But if we do
not refuse such a cheque and we incur any charges in relation
to the cheque because it is not drawn on a United Kingdom
bank we shall be entitled to recover those charges from
you.
d. If you pay by Direct Debit we will debit you the annual
subscription at the prevailing rate each year. In any other
case you will be liable to pay the whole of the annual subscription
for the following year not later than 31 March (30 April
for 2002) unless and until you cancel your subscription
in accordance with the cancellation provisions of these
conditions.
e. We must receive payment of the whole of the price of
any Membership subscription you wish to purchase before
your application for SCI Membership can be processed.
f. On placing your request for SCI Membership, SCI will
send you notice that your request has been received and
payment has been authorised. We will not have accepted your
application to become a Member until SCI's international
governing Council has formally endorsed your application;
however until then, SCI is happy to extend to you privileges
of membership without obligation on our part, including
receipt of Chemistry & Industry magazine direct to your
door and desktop.
g. The endorsement of your application for Membership by
SCI's international governing Council brings into existence
a legally binding contract between us.
III. Right for you to cancel your Membership
a. You may cancel your SCI Membership with us at any time.
b. To cancel your contract you must notify us in writing.
c. If you cancel your subscription we will arrange a refund
as soon as possible and in any event within 30 days of your
cancellation less the payment for the months you have received
Chemistry & Industry and other privileges before
we receive your cancellation.
IV. Cancellation of your Membership by us
a. SCI reserves the right to cancel any Membership subscription
without notice for any reason.
b. If, for any reason, SCI's international governing Council
refuses to accept your application for Membership, we will
notify you by e-mail and will arrange a refund as soon as
possible but in any event within 30 days of your application
being refused. We will not be obliged to offer any additional
compensation.
c. If we cancel your Membership of SCI at any time, we
will notify you by email and will arrange a refund of any
sum deducted by us as soon as possible but in any event
within 30 days of your Membership being cancelled. We will
not be obliged to offer any additional compensation.
V. Delivery of Goods
a. We will deliver all Goods associated with SCI Membership
to the address you give us for delivery at the time you
make your application.
b. Delivery of such Goods will be made as soon as possible
after your order is accepted and in any event within 30
days of acceptance of your application for SCI Membership
by SCI's international governing Council.
c. You will become the owner of such Goods when you have
paid for them and they have been delivered to you. Once
Goods have been delivered to you they will be held at your
own risk and we will not be liable for their loss or destruction.
VI. SCI's Liability
a. If the goods we deliver are not what you expected or
are damaged or defective or the delivery is of an incorrect
quantity or is delayed, we shall have no liability to you
unless you notify us in writing at our contact address of
the problem within 10 working days of the delivery of the
Goods in question.
b. If you do not receive any Goods within 30 days of the
date SCI's international governing Council grant you SCI
Membership, we shall have no liability to you unless you
notify us in writing at our contact address of the problem
within 40 days of the date SCI's international governing
Council grant you SCI Membership. If you notify a problem
to us under this condition, our only obligation will be,
at your option:
i. to make good any shortage or non-delivery;
ii. to replace or repair any goods that are damaged or
defective; or
iii. to refund to you the amount paid by you for the Membership
subscription in question in whatever way we choose.
c. Save as precluded by law, we will not be liable to you
for any indirect or consequential loss, damage or expenses
(including loss of profits, business or goodwill) howsoever
arising out of any problem you notify to us under this condition
and we shall have no liability to pay any money to you by
way of compensation other than to refund to you the amount
paid by you for the Membership subscription in whatever
way we choose.
d. You must observe and comply with all applicable regulations
and legislation, including obtaining all necessary customs,
import or other permits to purchase Goods from our site.
The importation or exportation of certain of our Goods to
you may be prohibited by certain national laws. We make
no representation and accept no liability in respect of
the export or import of the goods you purchase.
e. Notwithstanding the foregoing, nothing in these terms
and conditions is intended to limit any rights you might
have as a consumer under applicable local law or other statutory
rights that may not be excluded nor in any way to exclude
or limit our liability to you for any death or personal
injury resulting from our negligence.
f. These terms and conditions, together with our current
Website prices, contact details and privacy policy, set
out the whole of our agreement relating to the supply of
the Membership subscription to you by us. Nothing said by
any sales person on our behalf should be understood as a
variation of these terms and conditions or as an authorised
representation about the nature or quality of any goods
offered for sale by us. Save for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation,
we shall have no liability for any such representation being
untrue or misleading.
9b Terms and Conditions of Sale on which
SCI will sell registration for SCI Conferences through its
websites.
I. Interpretations:
In these conditions "Member" means a member of
SCI as defined by the SCI Charter and by-laws (link to pdf
of charter)
II. The contract between us:
a. No legally binding contract exists between us until
payment has been successfully processed and your order accepted.
b. The prices payable for conference places are set out
on our websites: www.soci.org
and www.chemind.org
c. You are encouraged to pay by means of Visa or Mastercard.
You may also pay by cheque, bankers draft, international
money order, or Eurocheque. All payments must be drawn in
Sterling (GB£). Cheques must be drawn on a United
Kingdom bank and we reserve the right to refuse a cheque
not drawn on a United Kingdom bank. But if we do not refuse
such a cheque and we incur any charges in relation to the
cheque because it is not drawn on a United Kingdom bank
we shall be entitled to recover those charges from you.
d. On placing your request for a place at an SCI conference,
SCI will send you notice that your request has been received
and payment will not be taken unless sufficient places are
available. We will not have accepted your order until we
have allocated you a place and processed your payment.
e. We must receive payment of the whole of the price of
any conference place you wish to book before your order
or booking can be accepted.
f. The successful process of your payment and our acceptance
of your order brings into existence a legally binding contract
between us.
III. Right for you to cancel your conference booking
a. You may cancel your contract with us for a conference
place at any time.
b. To cancel your contract you must notify us in writing
c. If you cancel a Conference booking more than three weeks
prior to the commencement of the Conference we will arrange
a refund as soon as possible and in any event within 30
days of your cancellation.
d. If you cancel a Conference booking between one and three
weeks prior to the congress we will arrange a refund as
soon as possible and in any event within 30 days of your
cancellation less a 20% administration charge.
e. We regret that no refund will be made for cancellations
received less than one week prior to the commencement of
the Conference.
f. If you are unable to attend the Conference you may at
our discretion nominate in writing someone else to attend
instead at any time prior to the commencement of the Conference.
We reserve the right to make an administration charge where
you nominate someone to take your place together with (if
the person nominated is not a Member) the amount of the
difference (if any) between the charges payable by a Member
and a Non-Member for a place at the Conference.
IV. Cancellation by us
a. It may be necessary for reasons beyond our control to
change the content and timing of the programme, the speakers,
the date or the venue. In the unlikely event of the programme
being postponed or cancelled, we will arrange a full refund
but we will not be obliged to offer any additional compensation.
b. We shall have no liability to you if a conference is
changed, postponed or cancelled due to any event or circumstance
beyond our reasonable control including, without limitation,
strikes, lock-outs and other industrial disputes, breakdown
of systems or network access, flood, fire, explosion or
accident.
c. If we do cancel any contract for a conference booking
we will notify you by e-mail and will arrange a refund of
any sum deducted by us from your credit card as soon as
possible but in any event within 30 days of acceptance of
your order.
V. SCI's Liability
a. Save as precluded by law, we will not be liable to you
for any indirect or consequential loss, damage or expenses
(including loss of profits, business or goodwill) howsoever
arising out of any problem you notify to us under this condition
and we shall have no liability to pay any money to you by
way of compensation other than to refund to you the amount
paid by you for the conference registration in whatever
way we choose.
b. Notwithstanding the foregoing, nothing in these terms
and conditions is intended to limit any rights you might
have as a consumer under applicable local law or other statutory
rights that may not be excluded nor in any way to exclude
or limit our liability to you for any death or personal
injury resulting from our negligence.
c. These terms and conditions, together with our current
Website prices, contact details and privacy policy, set
out the whole of our agreement relating to the supply of
the Conference Booking to you by us. Nothing said by any
sales person on our behalf should be understood as a variation
of these terms and conditions or as an authorised representation
about the nature or quality of any goods offered for sale
by us. Save for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, we
shall have no liability for any such representation being
untrue or misleading.
9c) Terms and Conditions of Sale on which
SCI will sell other Goods through its websites.
I. Interpretations:
In these conditions "Member" means a member of SCI
as defined by the SCI
Charter and By-Laws. "Goods" means anything
provided by SCI that is the subject of a transaction other
than those covered above.
II. The contract between us:
a. No legally binding contract exists between us until
SCI has processed your application to order SCI Goods and
confirmed your application has been successful.
b. The prices payable for any SCI Goods are set out on
our websites: www.soci.org
and www.chemind.org
c. You may be required to pay extra for SCI Goods to be
delivered and it might not be possible for us to deliver
to some locations. Our delivery areas and charges are set
out on the Website.
d. You are encouraged to pay by means of Visa or Mastercard.
You may also pay by cheque, bankers draft, international
money order, or Eurocheque. All payments must be drawn in
Sterling (GB£). Cheques must be drawn on a United
Kingdom bank and we reserve the right to refuse a cheque
not drawn on a United Kingdom bank. But if we do not refuse
such a cheque and we incur any charges in relation to the
cheque because it is not drawn on a United Kingdom bank
we shall be entitled to recover those charges from you.
e. We must receive payment of the whole of the price of
the Goods you wish to purchase before your order can be
processed and accepted.
f. On placing your request to order an SCI Goods, SCI will
send you notice that your request has been received and
payment has been authorised. We will not have accepted your
order until SCI staff have processed your application and
confirmed the acceptance of your order by email.
g. The acceptance of your order brings into existence a
legally binding contract between us.
XV. Right for you to cancel your contract for Goods
a. You may cancel your contract with us for the Goods you
order at any time up to the end of the seventh working day
from the date you receive the ordered Goods. You do not
need to give us any reason for cancelling your contract
nor will you have to pay any penalty.
b. You cannot cancel your contract if you have taken any
audio or video recording or computer software out of the
sealed package in which it was delivered to you.
c. To cancel your contract you must notify us in writing.
d. If you have received the Goods before you cancel your
contract then, unless under clause XV.b you do not have
a right to cancel, you must send the Goods back to our contact
address at your own cost and risk. If you cancel your contract
but we have already processed the Goods or Service for delivery
you must not unpack the Goods when they are received by
you and you must send the Goods back to us at our contact
address at your own cost and risk as soon as possible.
e. Once you have notified us that you are cancelling your
contract, we will arrange a refund as soon as possible and
in any event within 30 days of your cancellation PROVIDED
THAT the Goods in question are returned by you and received
by us in the condition they were in when delivered to you.
If you do not return the Goods delivered to you or do not
pay the costs of delivery, we shall be entitled to deduct
the direct costs of recovering the Goods from the amount
to be refunded to you.
XVI. Cancellation of your order by us
a. We reserve the right to cancel any contract for Goods
between us if:
i. we have insufficient stock to deliver the goods you have
ordered;
ii. we do not deliver to your area; or
iii. one or more of the Goods you ordered was listed at
an incorrect price due to a typographical error or an error
in the pricing information received by us from our suppliers.
b. If we do cancel any contract for Goods we will notify
you by email and will arrange a refund of any sum deducted
by us from your credit card as soon as possible but in any
event within 30 days of your order being accepted. We will
not be obliged to offer any additional compensation.
XVII. Delivery of Goods
a. We will deliver any Goods ordered by you to the address
you give us for delivery at the time you make your order.
b. Delivery of such Goods will be made as soon as possible
after your order is acceptance of your order.
c. You will become the owner of the Goods when you have
paid for them and they have been delivered to you. Once
the Goods have been delivered to you they will be held at
your own risk and we will not be liable for their loss or
destruction.
XVIII. SCI's Liability
a. If the Goods we deliver are not what you ordered or
are damaged or defective or the delivery is of an incorrect
quantity, we shall have no liability to you unless you notify
us in writing at our contact address of the problem within
10 working days of the delivery of the Goods in question.
b. If you do not receive any Goods within 30 days of the
date on your order was accepted, we shall have no liability
to you unless you notify us in writing at our contact address
of the problem within 40 days of the date on which your
order was accepted. If you notify a problem to us under
this condition, our only obligation will be, at your option:
i. to make good any shortage or non-delivery;

defective; or
iii. to refund to you the amount paid by you for the Goods
in question in whatever way we choose.

10 CV Service
SCI is not responsible for ensuring that information provided
in both vacancy advertisments and CV postings is accurate
or true. By displaying an advertisment or CV, SCI is in no
way endorsing an individual or company. The service provided
by SCI is limited to displaying the information provided by
the individuals and any complaint or queries should be directed
to the individual or company concerned.
Any positions offered or accepted using the service are in
no way connected to SCI unless explicitly stated and SCI accepts
no liability for any monies arising. The advertiser agrees
to indeminify SCI, and keep it indemnified, against all claims,
charges, demands, damages, liabilities, losses and expenses
of whatever nature and howsoever arising (including but not
limited to any legal or other professional fees and the cost
of defending or prosecuting any claim and any loss of profit,
goodwill and any other direct or consequential loss) incurred
or suffered by SCI directly or indirectly by reason of any
act or omission which you commit .
SCI reserves the right to remove any postings for any reason
or to edit postings containing what we perceive as abusive,
discriminatory or in other ways inappropriate wording.
11 Members' Directory Service
SCI is not responsible for ensuring that information provided
in the Members' Directory listings is accurate or true. By
displaying a listing, SCI is in no way endorsing an individual
or company. The service provided by SCI is limited to displaying
the information provided by the individuals and any complaint
or queries should be directed to the individual concerned.
Any business arrangements offered or accepted using the service
are in no way connected to SCI unless explicitly stated and
SCI accepts no liability for any monies arising. The advertiser
agrees to indeminify SCI, and keep it indemnified, against
all claims, charges, demands, damages, liabilities, losses
and expenses of whatever nature and howsoever arising (including
but not limited to any legal or other professional fees and
the cost of defending or prosecuting any claim and any loss

loss) incurred or suffered by SCI directly or indirectly by

12 SCI's Right to vary these Terms, and
our Promise to give Notice of Changes
SCI reserves the right to vary these Terms from time to time
on giving you Notice. You shall be deemed to have accepted
the changes if you continue to use the website after a period
of one week from the delivery of the Notice.
Any Notices shall, unless otherwise expressly stated, be in
writing and shall be given by sending the same by email, first
class post or facsimile transmission to the other party's
address as may be designated in writing from time to time.
Any Notice sent by first class post shall be deemed (in the
absence of evidence of earlier receipt) to have been delivered
two days after its despatch. Any Notice given by email or
facsimile transmission shall be deemed to have been delivered
on the next working day following transmission.
13 The Legal Framework for these Terms
These Terms contain the entire understanding between you and
SCI with respect to this website and no representation, statement,
inducement oral or written, not contained herein shall bind
any party to this agreement. Should any part of these Terms
for any reason be declared invalid by a court of competent
jurisdiction, such determination shall not affect the validity
of any remaining portion and such remaining portion shall
remain in full force and effect as if the invalid portion
of these Terms had been eliminated.
These Terms are made under English law and this website is
operated from England. You are responsible for compliance
with any applicable laws of the country from which you are
accessing this website. We make no representation that the
information contained herein is appropriate or available for
use in other locations outside England. You agree that the
courts of England shall have exclusive jurisdiction to resolve
any controversy or claim of whatever nature arising out of
or relating to use of this website, and that the laws of England
shall govern such dispute or claim. However, SCI retains the
right to bring legal proceedings in any jurisdiction where
SCI believes that infringement of this agreement is taking
place or originating.
