Industry Plant

Established 1965

This annual award is for a significant contribution to manufacturing operations, including technical, scientific and technology aspects.

Nominated by: SCI Members or Committees

Eligibility: There are no restrictions on the type of process nominated, but it must be whole or part of a manufacturing operation. The Award is judged on the following criteria:

  • Process novelty - New processes, or use of existing processes or equipment in unusual ways towards new end results
  • Engineering design - Significant gains through sustained application of an engineering philosophy, or distinctive approaches to overcome engineering problems in the plant
  • Safety - Not only the record, but also the techniques, practices and philosophies used to achieve it
  • Environmental compatibility - Very strict approaches are taken to evaluation of environmental impact and interaction
  • Profitability - Acceptable returns on investment, with reference to a range of factors in the sector, as well as in the national and world economies
  • Contribution to the national economy - Can include creation of employment or research opportunities, consequential development of other industries, import substitution; and export achievements
