Introducing SCI Ambassador, James Womack

James Womack

"For academic researchers, SCI membership offers the opportunity to meet and network with scientists working outside of universities in a variety of industrial contexts."

What are your research interests?
I am currently studying for a PhD in organic chemistry, specifically synthetic methodology, supervised by Dr Christopher Jones.

How did you first get involved with SCI?
I first became involved with SCI when I successfully applied for an SCI Scholarship during my PhD research. Since then I have been a member of the society and part of the SCI College of Scholars.

What do you hope to gain from your involvement with SCI?
Through my involvement with SCI, I hope to connect and network with industrial colleagues, building relationships which may eventually lead to future academic/industrial research collaborations.

Why would you encourage your peers to join SCI?
For academic researchers, SCI membership offers the opportunity to meet and network with scientists working outside of universities in a variety of industrial contexts. This is a valuable experience which, at the very least, encourages you to consider your research in a broader context, and may also lead to more substantial partnerships.
