Chris Bucke Memorial Lecture - 20 November 2013

29 Oct 2013

A memorial lecture in honour of Prof Chris Bucke, who sadly passed away earlier this year on 21 June 2013, will be held at the University of Westminster on Wednesday 20 November at 5pm.

Chris's career extended from industry (Tate and Lyle) to academia. He joined the University of Westminster in September 1985 and after many successful years retired as Professor of Biotechnology in 2005, remaining as emeritus professor where he continued advising staff and students in the School of Life Sciences.

During his career, he was a member of a number of scholarly societies including the Safety of Medicine and SCI's Biotechnology Group, which he chaired the group for many years. As editor and editorial board member of several journals in biotechnology, Chris, with his extensive knowledge, contributed actively in raising awareness of researchers to what he called 'avoid inventing the wheel'. Chris was awarded a Distinguished Service Award from SCI in 2012.

Chris's hobbies included horticulture, travelling, and particularly, trekking and supporting Liverpool FC.

The Chris Bucke Memorial Lecture will be given by Prof Bob Rastall, whose talk 'Carbohydrate bioengineering, diet and health' would have been close to Chris's heart.

We hope that you will be able to join us at this event and share your fond reminiscences of Chris with many of his colleagues and friends over drinks.

Please RSVP by 8 November to: Laura Mattarini, E: L.Mattarini@westminster.ac.uk
