Palm Oil - The Sustainable 21st Century Oil
23 March 2009 - 24 March 2009
Palm Oil (PO) is the world’s most widely produced and traded vegetable oil. It is predominantly used for food, but increasingly also for oleochemicals and more recently as a feedstock for biodiesel. Indonesia and Malaysia dominate production and have done much to make the oil so important, but have also come under criticism for destruction of tropical rain forest. With world population projected to increase to over 9 billion by 2050, PO will become even more important for world food supplies. The conference will be held at the prestigious facilities of the Royal Society in central London and will address the issues of production, sustainability and environmental degradation with knowledgeable speakers from many disciplines.
Who should attend?
It is aimed particularly at the food industry, nutritionists, NGOs, shippers, traders, buyers and politicians – at people and organisations who use or have a general interest in PO.
Exhibition and Sponsors
An exhibition will run concurrently with the conference. There are many exhibition and sponsorship opportunities available. Please email conferences@soci.org for further details and prices.
