Applicants are requested to submit a 300 word abstract of their research on a lipids-related theme to helen.gibb@soci.org by the closing date of Friday 22 April 2016.
Suggested topic areas include (but are not restricted to) neuroscience, digestion and metabolism, crystallisation of triacylglycerols, functioning of phospholipid membranes, compositional analysis, processing and disease prevention.
An abstract template can be downloaded here.
Six shortlisted candidates will be notified via email by Wednesday 27 April 2016.
The shortlisted candidates will be asked to produce a summary / infographic of their work by 20 May 2016. Further details will be provided to the shortlisted candidates. This will take the form of one powerpoint slide and can include images, tables and graphs and will be displayed on the SCI website in the period prior to the event and on large LED screens on the day of the event.
The shortlisted candidates will be invited to give an oral presentation on the day of the event. Presentations will be 15 minutes long with a further 15 minutes available for questions and should be supported by an accompanying PowerPoint presentation.
After the presentations, the winner will be selected by a vote of the Lipids Group Committee and will receive a prize of £100 and a certificate. All the shortlisted candidates will receive one year complimentary membership of SCI (worth £25). Reasonable travel expenses (e.g. second class off-peak return rail fare) will be refunded for the shortlisted candidates.
The winner will also be eligible to give an oral presentation at EuroFedLipid 2016 in Ghent, Belgium for which the SCI will cover expenses up to the value of £400 to attend. A report from Nicola McCarthy, the 2015 Young Lipid Scientist Award winner, can also be found on the website, click here.
