Élisabeth Desgagné is a 2019 Canada Student Merit Award winner. She achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of her class in the fourth and final year of her degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.

In 2014, Élisabeth joined the Canadian Armed Forces and the Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean, Quebec, later transferring to the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. She enjoyed participating in athletic, academic, and military activities offered within the military college community, including a term with the French Air Force at l’Académie de l'air.

The support and passion of her teachers and mentors during her Honours Chemistry and Life Sciences programme were key elements of her success. Upon graduation in 2019, Élisabeth received the Military Support Award of Merit and the M. Evans Award for her project in chemistry. She was also proud to complete the Regular Officer Training Programme and receive her commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

After graduation, Élisabeth was accepted into a competitive post-graduate programme and is currently pursuing a Masters in Applied Science with Prof. Cecile Malardier-Jugroot in the Department Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at RMC. She is excited to continue her research on self-assembled nanoreactors and low-dimensional metal nanocrystals. Balancing her development as a military officer and research scientist has been an exceptional experience and provides a unique perspective as she moves forward into her career.
