2016 winner of the SCI Canada LeSueur Memorial Award:

Hamdy Khalil
Advanced Technologies and Innovation

Hamdy Khalil worked for Woodbridge Corporation for more than 20 years and is presently the senior global director for Advanced Technologies and Innovation. He pioneered the selection, development and commercialization of renewable materials into the polyurethane technology used in the manufacturing of automotive interior parts. His pioneering work is this area is now the benchmark for the global automotive Industry. Prior to Woodbridge , Khalil held senior technical position at Labatt’s Pharmaceutical Division, Polysar Corporation, and The BF Goodrich Company.

He introduced and published groundbreaking chemistries in the following areas: Reformatsky Reaction to synthesize vitamin A analogues; Wittig Reaction in the synthesis of polyene; phase transfer catalysis for the synthesis of hitherto known sulphur and oxygen pharamaceutical and pheromones building synthons and structural adhesives for automotive windshield.

Khalil is an adjunct professor at the University of Guelph, member of the board of directors of the Center for Research in the Bio Economy (CRIBE); member of the board of director of the Ontario BioAutocouncil; member of the NRC steering committee for bio-product development; member of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the business lead ArboraNano.

He organized and chaired many international conferences in the areas of polyurethane and nano technology.

Khalil holds a double major BSc in chemistry and physics from the University of Alexandria and MSc in nutritional biochemistry From Cairo.
