On 19 June 2013, the University of Manchester's Department of Chemistry hosted the first in a series of inspiring lectures to be held across the country as part of SCI's 'Discovering Chemistry 2013' public and schools lecture series.

Reaction Optimisation conference papers

On Wednesday 24 April 2013, SCI's Young Chemists' Panel organised an event called Reaction Optimisation which was held at GlaxoSmithKline in Stevenage. Lectures were delivered by a range of industrial and academic speakers who are experts in their field, with the aim of showing the reaction optimisation techniques can be used in the everyday lab environment.

On Thursday 21 March 2013, SCI's Young Chemists' Panel organised an event called Molecular Interactions in Drug Discovery which was held at the Pfizer Lecture Theatre at the University of Cambridge.

Young Chemist Review Meeting 2012 past papers


The Young Chemist's Panel held their 19th Annual Review Meeting: Advances in asymmetric synthesis on Monday 26 November.

The aim of this meeting was to explore four "hot" topics in asymmetric synthesis research and deliver a comprehensive overview, highlighting new methods and reviewing the latest applications and concepts.

Another successful programme of SCI undergraduate symposia was completed in 2012, building on the success of previous years. This year has seen symposia at five universities around the country and drew speakers from over 20 institutions.

Candidate to Market was a one-day course held on 16 May 2012, organised by SCI's Young Chemists' Panel, which explained the fate of a chemist's compound once it leaves his or her hands and goes on the journey through to clinical development. The meeting was aimed at scientists in the industrial and academic fields.
