The Scotland Regional Group is saddened to report the recent death of Dr Alan Turner, a long time member of SCI. Alan Turner was appointed to a Lectureship in Chemistry at the University of Aberdeen in 1963, and served the department for more than 30 years before taking early retirement to take care of his wife.

Alan joined SCI in 1973 and became a Life Member in 2001. He served for many years on the committee of the Aberdeen branch of SCI (a forerunner of the present Scotland Regional Group).

Following retirement, Alan held the position of Honorary Research Fellow in the chemistry department until his death. He contributed to the teaching of organic chemistry and the co-supervision of PhD students in this role for more than 12 years. As a colleague of Alan's for the past 13 years, I can attest to his enthusiasm for chemistry and his willingness to help students and staff in any way he could. He will be sadly missed.
