SCI has committed itself to invest in the development of the human capital that will make up the chemical research bodies and industrial talent pool of the future. Throughout the history of the Society, Members have made generous endowments in the shape of Trust Funds which are administrated by SCI to support life-shaping and life-changing experiences for young people.

SCI Scholarships

The SCI Scholars fund established in 1920 was endowed by the bequests of Rudolph Messel (more information) and John Gray, former presidents and founding members of SCI.

If you are a PhD student approaching the 2nd year of your research degree, you are eligible to compete for an SCI Scholarship worth £5,000 over two years to help support your studies. Applications are invited from across the scientific and engineering spectrum, from industrial biotechnology to food science, chemical engineering to horticulture, environmental sciences to polymers, and drug discovery to cement science.

Applications will only be considered from SCI standard or student members. Please note that SCI Scholarships are not available to SCI e-members or non-members.

In addition to the Scholarship, you will benefit from publishing opportunities, access to a high-calibre network to help launch your career, and opportunities to present your work and raise your profile within the scientific community. SCI Scholarships are prestigious and competitive awards, well-respected by industry professionals and academics. An SCI Scholarship can be an important addition to your CV.
