Research Seminar presentation deadline extended until 19 October

12 Oct 2015

SCI’s Fire and Materials Group is calling for presentations from students at the Fire and Materials Group Research Seminar from 4 to 5 November 2015. There is a dedicated session at the seminar for students to present their research and awards will be given for best poster/oral presentation by a young researcher (new post doc or PhD student). If you are interested in making a presentation, please submit a 250 word abstract indicating preference for presentation or poster by 19 October 2015 to G.M.Smart@bolton.ac.uk.

The Fire and Materials Research Seminar will be on the subject of bromine flame retardants and will ask the question, are they life savers or eco villains? The event will start on 4 November 2015 with an optional tour of the laboratories in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde. The following day we will move to the Glasgow City Hotel (formerly the Thistle) for the seminar.

Visiting industrial speakers will discuss both sides of the argument for and against brominated flame retardants. Speakers include Willem Hofland (EFRA), Adrian Beard (PINFA) and Peter Wragg (Fretwork).

The seminar is an opportunity for researchers, new post docs and PhD students to share their research in Fire Materials with others from industry and academia. By bringing together young researchers and industrial representatives, this event will enable them to network and ask questions of each other.

All students who register to attend the event will receive one-year’s SCI student membership (worth £25) included in their ticket price. For further details and to register, please click on the link below.
