Plant of the Year Award
Plant of the Year Award – Established 1965
This Australian Award is judged on the following criteria:
- Process Novelty - New processes, or use of existing processes or equipment in unusual ways towards new end results
- Engineering Design - Significant gains through sustained application of an engineering philosophy, or distinctive approaches to overcome engineering problems in the plant
- Safety - Not only the record, but also the techniques, practices and philosophies used to achieve it
- Environmental Compatibility - Very strict approaches are taken to evaluation of environmental impact and interaction.
- Profitability - Acceptable returns on investment, with reference to a range of factors in the sector, as well as in the national and world economies
- Contribution to the National Economy - Can include creation of employment or research opportunities, consequential development of other industries, import substitution; and export achievements
Nominations Accepted from: SCI Members or Committees
Qualification: There are no restrictions on the type of process nominated, but it must be whole or part of a manufacturing operation. It must be located within Australia, and been operating efficiently for at least 12 months. A key factor in determining the Award is the level of Australian contribution in technology, both scientific and technical.
