Throughout the history of the Society, Members have made generous endowments in the shape of Trust Funds which are administrated by SCI to support life-shaping and life-changing experiences for young people.

  • SCI Scholarships are not being awarded during 2012. However, applications are still welcomed for the Seligman Fellowship. More details

SCI Scholarships

The SCI Scholars fund established in 1920 was endowed by the bequests of Rudolph Messel (more information) and John Gray, former presidents and founding members of SCI.

If you are a PhD student approaching the 2nd year of your research degree, you are eligible to compete for an SCI Scholarship worth £5,000 over two years to help support your studies. Applications are invited from across the scientific and engineering spectrum, from industrial biotechnology to food science, chemical engineering to horticulture, environmental sciences to polymers, and drug discovery to cement science.

In addition to the scholarship, you will benefit from publishing opportunities, access to a high-calibre network to help launch your career, and opportunities to present your work and raise your profile within the scientific community. SCI Scholarships are prestigious and competitive awards, well-respected by industry professionals and academics. An SCI Scholarship can be an important addition to your CV.

Seligman APV Fellowship

The Seligman APV Trust was endowed by APV, now part of SPX, in honour of its founder, Dr Richard Seligman (more information) and is one of the charitable funds of SCI.

Seligman Fellowships are for recent food engineering graduates and post-graduates who are non-UK residents currently working in industry or academia and would be able to come to the UK to dedicate a continuous period of up to six months to sharpen their skills and knowledge in their field. Candidates must demonstrate that they are particularly involved in food engineering in their home countries.

This is an excellent opportunity to study in one of the UK's renowned centres of food engineering teaching and research for up to six months with a grant of up to GB£11,000.

All applications must provide evidence of achievements and be filled carefully and signed. Applications will only be valid when supported by two reference letters complying with the requirements specified in the application form provided. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that referees' letters are sent; SCI will not chase reference letters.

Successful applications are selected by a panel of members of the Seligman Trust Management Group. The deadline for applications is 31 July. To apply, please fill the form below and ensure your two referees send their supporting letters to awards@soci.org
