Young Ambassadors
Young Ambassadors are students or young professionals who have received awards from an SCI Group, and are invited to spend a year, or longer, on its committee. The group may choose to pay the awardee's membership fees for his/her year, in return for service with the Committee. Young Ambassadors will typically attend some or all committee meetings (in person or by conference call).
Ideally, these new joiners stay on in order to build up a network of students and young scientists on the committee, with those already on the scheme mentoring newcomers.
The main benefits to the role are:
- Experience in running events/workshops
- Promotion – getting their name published
- Opportunities to present and speak
- Building their CV/resumé
- Building their contacts within their specific industry
Benefits in continuing with the Committee after one year also include:
- Building a network with industry peers of the same calibre
- Opportunities for leadership and management experience
- Opportunities to influence the topics and focus of Committee's events
The role might also include:
- Assisting with brainstorming and ideas generation for Committee activities.
- Assisting with creating a database of contacts.
- Editing or contributing to a Group newsletter
- Writing for the website and Members' News
