Energy Reception

10 Dec 2013

SCI was pleased to welcome 50 attendees to the SCI Energy Reception held at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) on 7 November. We were very pleased to see such a high level of interest and very positive feedback from a broad range of energy experts from industry and academia who attended the reception as well as participants in the conference on 'A New Age for Coal with Carbon Capture & Storage', earlier in the day.  Further information on the conference is available by clicking on the link below.

Paul Booth OBE, Chairman SABIC UK Petrochemicals and Hon President, SCI opened the evening’s proceedings with a presentation on Sustainable, competitive energy – fuelling economic growth. This was followed by a presentation on Energy science and engineering – global challenges and developments by Tomas Kåberger, Professor of Industrial Energy Policy, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden and Editor-in-Chief, Energy Science and Engineering Journal (Wiley-SCI). This was then followed by questions from the audience that resulted in some very engaging discussions about energy challenges and potential solutions.  The evening concluded with more lively discussion as the diverse audience networked during the drinks reception.

The presentations from the evening are available below for you to download.

SCI, in partnership with Wiley, publishes a book series and three journals focused on energy.  We are now planning to form an energy group to enable us to contribute to the development of new and enhanced energy solutions to fuel sustainable, industrial development and improved quality of life.

SCI has a long history of collaborating with other organisations to inform the debate on ways to achieve sustainable and competitive supplies of energy. If you have ideas for collaboration with SCI on energy related initiatives or if you would like to indicate your interest in being involved in the new SCI Energy Group, please contact communications@soci.org

Our incoming Executive Director, Dr Juliet Corbett, will be taking up her role in January 2014. Juliet's career has spanned a range of roles in the public and private energy sector including Business Manager of the Wylfa Magnox Nuclear Power Station. She has more recently been involved in energy policy including Electricity Market Reform. Once established in her role, Juliet will communicate with interested parties regarding the next steps for the formation of the SCI Energy Group.
