John MacFarlane joined SCI in early 2023 as Director of Publishing.
He has worked in the science publishing arena for more than 20 years, working across a wide product portfolio including research journals, digital products, books and magazines. Most recently, he was Publishing Director of leading consumer magazine New Scientist.
Other roles have included Executive Web Editor at Nature Publishing Group and European Editor at Science’s Next Wave, a joint venture between the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Wellcome Trust.
John’s studied Genetics at Edinburgh University. He is still passionate about the ability of science to improve individual lives, shape society for the better and drive economic growth.
